Update 2025.02.02 - Overhaul '25 beta 1 release

Common S.M.A.R.T Errors section added with the possibility to run "acknowledge all" - IF configured to allow Disk Location to edit Unraid config files (disabled by default). This will also be the case for device dates (manufactured, purchased, warranty).

Benchmark completed, with screenshots. CSV export added.

Further bugfixes.. fixed etc. Debug function renewed and accessible from System.

This build is available now through "devel" and Overhaul '25 is now 90% complete (this might change).

Benchmark running, preview of SMART-tab:

Hmmm, check if all settings are cleared in the configuration regarding what to show, then tick of all boxes you want show. It has been/is a bug with some database upgrade, I think.

You might wanna try to restore last backup made, then run (force) update all again.

Update 2025.02.03 - Overhaul '25 beta 2 release

  • Further improvements has been made in the core code. Compared to Disk Location (2024.02.03) with ~200ms load time, Overhaul '25 is now at just ~60ms on my system. Larger system will likely see a bigger gain.
  • One more function planned for this overhaul, possibility to add hidden/bypassed devices. This will likely make "tray override" obsolete and deprecated.

More can be read here:

If possible, I have a minor feature request.

In DASHBOARD when "mouse over" on a drive it shows Temp, SMART, Operation, Online...

Could we perhaps have a second row (maybe optional with a setting?) with either disc name (disk 12, parity, cache_ssd) and/or the serial number of the drive?

i.e:

39° | SMART: PASSED, NORMAL OPERATION, DEVICE IS ACTIVE

S/N: K4J7NM0RB14934T | disk 12

It would give another way of easy identification.

Hey, just noticed that 4 of my 8 drives are showing "Device not Present" but they are definitely there and working just fine.  Is this just a graphical glitch or does it mean something that I should be concerned about?  Drives 1-6 are all the same Seagate 16TB drives.  Drives 7-8 are WD 14TB drives.

Did you try to force update them?

Aha! I did not as I was just wondering why they would go into that state to begin with - never seen that before.

Update All fixed it.  Wonder if this is going to be a usual thing?

I also see that and have used forced update several times.

In configuration, this must be enabled, I think it's disabled by default:

"Automatic system boot and update scan"

This might/will make the system use a bit more time to boot up, however, this will be enabled in Overhaul '25 by default and can't be turned off anymore as it causes more confusion.

@Niklas probably info for you too.

To add some more, enable scheduled SMART update should also be enabled for drive update. This will also not be a thing in Overhaul '25 .. which I think is sort of ready soon. I just wait a bit after some more testing before releasing it.

Hello,
When I edit the shown fields <configuration/sorting fields> if I add "device" anywhere, when I view the results it now shows "path" instead. Picture below, but it happens in all the pages, I'm sure it's just mapped incorrectly in the db possibly.

Just checking if it's a bug or if I'm doing something wrong (I was just trying to have the Unraid "device" name shown (disk1, 2, parity if its supported))

Thanks for the amazing plugin!!

"disk name" will be a part of Overhaul '25, like "parity" "parity2" "disk4" etc.

Not sure if the new version will change things but one of the things that I'm struggling with right now is a 45 drive Supermicro 847 JBOD.

image.thumb.png.61274c4436c437f3b59e9d9acc1a15dc.png

I'd like to be able to get it to disable 1-3 on JBOD Back rather than 22-24. Not sure if I'm just an idiot or if this actually isn't possible.

Overhaul '25 will have the stuff you look for. Tray override will be deprecated, but works after update for existing configs.

It's enabled.

Force update will work for a while i think. Will keep an eye on it.

One of the drives has the wrong color coding too.

There's multiple color bugs in current version, often best to "reset all colors" and start over. Hopefully all are addressed in the new version.

Hi again :)

Okay i think a restore and forece update worked.

But i need a slot 0 ? Is that possible to get that? :)

Overhaul '25 has reached RC 2 (2025.02.10-2201)!

https://github.com/olehj/disklocation/milestone/4?closed=1

I would like some guinea pigs to install and test this version. Please reach out if you are testing it, and for sure if you encounter any problems.

Instructions for installation:

  1. First go to Tools -> Disk Location, open System tab and do a Force SMART+DB.
  2. Then create a backup (click "Backup" button).
  3. Go to plugins and uninstall "Disk Location" (if it is installed).
  4. Go to "Install plugin" and type in this URL: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/olehj/disklocation/devel/disklocation-devel.plg
  5. Wait until it's complete, then go to Dashboard or open plugin tab.
  6. Explore, read and do as it says. You will get a message about what to do, and it must be done the first update. Very easy!

Revert back to stable edition:

  1. Go to plugins and uninstall "disklocation-devel"
  2. Go to community apps and install Disk Location from there or go to "install plugin" and type this URL: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/olehj/disklocation/master/disklocation-master.plg
  3. Your old database should not be touched, if it was, restore it from System, then execute Force SMART+DB.

Stay on or revert to 2024-edition (even after Overhaul '25 reaches stable) - manual installation and update only. Should only be used for specific purpose. It is not part of Community Apps and won't be it either:

ChangeLog:

  • Commit #372 - FEATURE: Seagate SMART vs FARM LOG check in System tab added for checking fraudulent drives.
  • Commit #369 - IMPROVEMENT: Use syslog to detect SMART read events.
  • Commit #365 - FEATURE: Added selected dashboard info to LED "hover" info on Unraid dashboard.
  • Commit #362 - FEATURE: Created a possibility to hide/bypass trays in a group.
  • Commit #361 - IMPROVEMENT: Performance tweak, cleaned up functions and system to improve loading speed.
  • Commit #360 - IMPROVEMENT: Debug function overhauled and made a bit more useful in some cases.
  • Commit #352 - FEATURE: Disk Location plugin time benchmark added, but must be executed manually by entering ?benchmark=1 in the address field. Value is visible in the "System" tab.
  • Commit #351 - FEATURE: Collect SMART errors in an own separate list. Also added possibility to acknowledge all drives at once, but only if plugin is set to allow Unraid config.
  • Commit #349 - MINOR: A few CSS fixes regarding the LEDs. Mostly changes with the dynamic LEDs.
  • Commit #348 - MINOR: Fixed color codes, make sure "empty" color will reset or delete the color of devices. Added a group color for default color for specific groups. Also changed default colors, must be reset manually after the plugin update for current users.
  • Commit #347 - IMPROVEMENT: SAVE button on all Disk Tray Layouts. Deleted the individual Save button on the Disk Tray Layouts, one button to rule them all.. finally.
  • Commit #346 - IMPROVEMENT: SQLite is removed! It will be automatically converted to multiple json files. This will also prevent sudden database corruptions, obviously. But maybe other type of corruptions? :P However, the backup/restore will still work on older SQLite database backups, they will be automagically converted.
  • Commit #345 - MINOR: Installation script cleaned up and fixed some bugs.
  • Commit #344 - IMPROVEMENT: Configuration cleanup. All supported dates can be stored in bulk, if Unraid config edit is enabled.
  • Commit #343 - IMPROVEMENT: Removed most SMART from the DB, running it in memory instead. Some data will be stored for History purposes.
  • Commit #342 - FEATURE: Added a customizable plugin dashboard (not to be confused with Unraid dashboard). Formatting of text and positioning possible.
  • Commit #277 - FEATURE: Added a small simple benchmark for read test (hdparm) with SVG graphs. Can be exported as CSV too.

Changes during RC2, outside issue reporting via github up to 2025.02.10-2201:

  • Also added storage consumption info in System
  • More benchmarks added (for development, and are related to the task below:)
  • Optimized loading time, got rid of all slow "shell_exec" in the user code, added into cronjob for cache instead. Shaved off additional 20-30ms loading time.
  • Added memory consumption info to System.
  • Fallback to default sorting mode if something wrong is detected. Post from 2025.02.08-1936 is now invalid, however, an error might show and tell how to fix it).
  • Reworked how errors are displayed.

Changes during RC1, outside issue reporting via github, up to 2025.02.09-1936:

  • Added "SSD Endurance" available and fixed correct numbers, combined nvme_used and ssd endurance into "endurance" (this might crash current devel installs (won't affect upgrades later), fix: edit files in /boot/config/plugins/disklocation/settings.json then search and replace "nvme_used" to "endurance", or just remove "nvme_used") (2025.02.08-1936)
  • Fixed a folder creation problem, preventing SMART data to be stored in a frequent case. (2025.02.07-2352)
  • Function added for checking valid data between system and database, trigger a warning if found (2025.02.07-1551).
  • Added a green message if no SMART errors are found and hide the table to avoid confusion about the page.
  • Benchmarks was added into backups
  • Added reset options to delete user specific configs

Other changes:

  • A lot of code has been walked through and timed, shortening the loading time by quite a lot.
  • 45 changed files with 5,710 additions and 5,492 deletions.
  • Roughly estimated, I have been working with this overhaul around 300 hours.

Some screenshots of Overhaul '25 along the process, some of them look slightly different from current version, but you get the gist of it:

Did you update SMART?

Was there a big red text at the start page telling you to perform it, or just all flashing red from the beginning?

Also if you open terminal and type:

ls /tmp/disklocation/

Do you see a folder called "smart"?

And if, does it have contents?

ls /tmp/disklocation/smart/

And btw. did you install the Overhaul '25 version (devel), or regular stable?

Fix Common Problems flagged for me this morning that "The plugin disklocation-master.plg is not known to Community Applications and is possibly incompatible with your server" - does this mean the Overhaul '25 version is imminent?
