  1. If you're going to have a lot of drives you need a lot of cooling. That's why those server cases are like that. Most of the noise can be adjusted as long you have PWM fans and ipmi on your board, or at least a bios that you can control fan speed with. Still I wouldn't want my server rack in the same room with me.
  2. It seems a lot of people have trouble racking norcos. I think it's an issue with once you get the rails on it makes it too wide in the rack. I used to have a norco 4224 but never tried to rack it. I think a lot of people end up just sticking them on shelves. I had mine on a folding table in the basement for a long time. Currently i'm running 2x supermicro sc846 now with 42u APC netshelter sx rack.
  3. If it were me I would just buy a new drive. Then worry about replacement after I had the new one safely running.
  4. Yes, but I wasn't recommending you buy that particular one in your case. I was just commenting on what I use and why I use it. I have lot's of devices plus 3 different servers I run off them.
  5. The power flickered like 8 times in one day after a snow storm the other day. The ups was showing like 8 power loss events on it. I have 2x APC SMT1500RM2U. I wouldn't be without them and I sleep better knowing my servers are protected.
  6. Minimum of 31 is 31%. So 2400 rpms seems reasonable. What are the other values set to? They are what is going to determine fan speed above that. Here's a screen cap of my values. I reset my server and now fan speeds are back to 3200-3500 with a fan speed minimum of 31. I'm wondering why rpm went down to 2400 before.
  7. So I installed the ipmi plugin the other day. Everything seemed to be working good. Set fan speed minimum to 31. My fans were all humming away at 3400-3500rpm. I come back today and my fans are all back down to 2400rpm and my HDD temps are pretty high. Somethings not right. Any ideas? thanks. My board is X10SLH-F.
  8. hehe, yeah that's basicly why i've never messed with it. The fastest internet speed I can get around here is 9mbps. I'm running a Asus rt-n16 router with shibby tomato. No need for much else..
  9. Hi Deryg yeah I guess I can ship to Canada. I'm in northern Idaho. PM me and we can work out the details.
  10. It comes preinstalled with osmc and kodi. You basicly just plug it in. It doesn't get much easier. https://osmc.tv/vero/
  11. Wdtv live was OK 8 years ago, there are much better options these days. I use these regularly on various tv's. vero 4k roku ultra nvidia shield
  12. You are definitely going to want to use the ipmi plugin to set your fan speeds to normal levels. Around 3400-3500 rpm is about right. Otherwise the whole house will hear your server. I have my rack in the basement and on full speed you can hear it upstairs. I run 2 SC846 cases with SAS3-EL1 expander backplanes and titanium power supplies. I have the fans all dialed down and it's quiet enough. The titanium 1200w power supplies I can barely hear. Most of the older supermicro power supplies were really noisy. That SAS2 backplane should work with 10TB or 100TB+ hard drives just fine.
  13. I have a pair of HGST He10's (HUH721010ALE604) for parity and they are the coolest running drives in my case. They idle at like 30c and are even cooler than my wd red drives. My WD black 5tb is the hottest running out of all of them.
  14. Switched everything to new server cases with expanders so I have a few cards for sale. These all are flashed with latest firmware to IT mode without bios and they work great with unraid. 2x IBM 1015 --- $70 each, shipped -SOLD 1x LSI 9201-16i --- $150 shipped - SOLD I accept paypal.
  15. Join the club... A lot of us bought a synology nas first. But I still use my DS1513+ mainly to stream audio. I'm still glad I bought it because I need to run minimserver with my Lumin T1 streamer. That's something I wish unraid had was minimserver. For some reason it's not available for unraid yet.
  16. I might consider buying a Epyc setup but it all depends on the single socket boards supermicro decides to release. It's still really early, not enough details yet....
  17. Thanks! I just bought a couple of these also. Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk
  18. Back when version 6 was still in beta LT was selling 2 copies of Pro license for $150 or something like that.... I don't remember the exact final price but it was a good deal. I snatched it up. Maybe someday they will do something similar...Maybe not though.
  19. Thanks Johnnie. I will definitely make sure when I go to buy them.
  20. Thanks itimpi. :-) Sounds easy enough. Since this was dual parity upsizing I wasn't totally sure the procedure.
  21. I'm running dual parity with 8TB wd reds right now. Thinking about swapping them to HGST He10 drives sometime soon. Can someone tell me the best way to do it so I don't mess up. I don't want any screw ups. Also, I think I want to add those 8TB reds back into the array as data drives. Thanks.
  22. Yeah WD Gold 10TB looks like a really nice drive. Either that or HGST HE10. Couldn't really go wrong with either of them... And they are probably both very similar.
  23. I bought a 7700k for $310 from monoprice the other day off of ebay. It's going in a desktop though, not for unraid. Also they should have Kaby Lake E3 xeons for sale soon.. I expect them to be released anytime now.
