Notes about Supermicro X11SCA-F
Lucky I’m in no hurry then. Intel really screwed up here. If it’s not anywhere close to being available by the time I do a build, I’ll just roll with that ASRock + E-2288G combo or go with a X470D4U + Ryzen combo. Btw, could you possibly verify the settings I posted several posts back? Makes no sense to keep this as a possibility if I can’t even figure out what’ll take to get it work the way I want to.

Notes about Supermicro X11SCA-F
Provantage currently has it available for Special Order straight from the manufacturer. They have a timeline you can check out that says when it should actually get to you. It’s been drifting further and further but finally settled at 29 days. I’m not in a real hurry and that’s not too long of a wait for me. I’m still not ready to do a build due to still paying off my student loans so I got plenty of time to see if they ever come In-Stock. I found an ASRock Rack E3C246D4U + E-2288G combo for sale but I really want to stick with a Supermicro board which will work perfectly with my Supermicro CSE-836. The ASRock board I know won’t read the data from PSU.

Okay. Cool. Thanks for responding. It’s great that you got things working properly for Windows. I’m hoping someone who used UnRAID can verify actual steps to get everything working properly. I’m still pretty sure that for my build I’m going to do a Ryzen 5 3600 + X470D4U + P2000 but I still can’t shake my interest in a E-2278G + Supermicro/ASRock rack MB w/ IPMI. Some of the people here apparently got it working but I don’t want to end up buying everything without someone verifying that’s QuickSync will work properly with Plex and still keep IPMI. If it didn’t work, I’d either have to return everything and waste my time or add a P2000 and that would waste the iGPU.

@burg3, @rinseaid. @cemaranet, and @cheezdog can any of y’all verify if these are the settings that need to be done to get IPMI/BMC working with QuickSync active at the same time? I’ve been really thinking about going with a E-2278G (if Provantage can ever get one) and a X11SCA-F for my Plex server upgrade. I just want to completely understand what settings are needed to make it work if I go this route.

What all did you do? What exactly did you change in your BIOS and syslinux.cfg?

I don't see anything like that. Thread looks normal to me.

@Geran just give the instructions in that thread a try and report back if you have any issues. Multiple people in that thread had success with Plex and QuickSync with IPMI onboard.

It works. This is from a different motherboard but it’s the same company and chipset. Everything should be the same.

+1 Also, Norco 4116/4216 would be greatly appreciated!

Unraid OS version 6.7 available
What’s Unraid’s stance on what to do about hyperthreading? Should we turn it off or leave it on if we own an affected Intel processor?
-
Unraid OS version 6.7 available
I think it’s a huge deal. For every generation affected by this (except for the 9th gen), this turns your i7 into an i5. That’s about $100 difference that has now been wasted. I was really looking to use the i7-8700 for my build at the end of the year but I’m almost 100% sure to be switching to Ryzen now. Intel is really screwing over a lot of companies with this dropping of hyperthreading. I read somewhere yesterday that some systems could see a drop as much as 40% in performance. That’s selling a bad bill of goods. They better prepare to get sued to oblivion for this.

[Support] Linuxserver.io - OpenVPN AS
I had the same issue as everyone else. I originally set it up using spaceinvader one's video as a guide. I deleted everything to start over fresh. I made sure it was set to bridge and didn't set an interface variable. Now that I'm inside, I'm stuck on what to do about the "Accepting VPN client connections on IP address:". I had bond0 when I first set this up. That is no longer an option. It's between "Listen on all interfaces" or eth0? Which should I choose? ***EDIT: I chose eth0 and everything seems to be working now! Still don't know if that was correct but it works.

Tower cases with 5.25" drive bays top to bottom...
I actually have one that has the plugs at the end. I’m thinking about probably just buying a bigger case with 9 x 5.25” bays. Going by measurements, I’ll probably roll with a used AZZA Solano 1000 or a Cooler Master Storm Trooper/Stryker if I can find one when the time comes. Either that or get a different HBA card or just buy 3 more of the Icy Dock MB153SP-B and those should easily fit without any changes in the Antec 900. I was really hoping the SuperMicro cages would fit without issue though.

Tower cases with 5.25" drive bays top to bottom...
Are there any Antec Nine Hundred (900) with Supermicro 5 in 3 cages owners still out there? I'm looking to do a build later this year with that setup (3 cages). I just wanted to see if the overall length of the cages interferes with an ATX motherboard. I know the fans on the back of the Supermicro cages poke out quite a bit and probably overlap the board. Anyone have any pictures of the cages inside their Antec 900? I don't want to purchase everything and then have problems getting everything plugged in.

PCI-e Sata expansion card
Both the 9211-8i and the cables you picked looked good. The seller for the HBA card has a perfect rating and lots of reviews. Looks legit to me. The cables are very similar to the ones I have. Just make sure you don’t bend them too much when using them. They are a little brittle and can break. As long as you’re not too forceful with them and doing crazy bends, they should work well.

PCI-e Sata expansion card
Here is a good list with some explanations about whether a model will need to be flashed or not: https://wiki.unraid.net/Hardware_Compatibility This is the one I bought: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-LSI-6Gbps-SAS-HBA-LSI-9211-8i-P20-IT-Mode-ZFS-FreeNAS-unRAID-low-profile/163558361429?hash=item2614d68955:g:I08AAOSwY7lcb1sJ:sc:USPSPriorityMailSmallFlatRateBox!45230!US!-1 This seller is rock solid and it’s worth the price for someone else to do the flashing if you don’t feel confident. Also, you’ll need some forward breakout cables as well. These are of really good quality and worth not skimping on: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B012BPLYJC/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I’m getting ready to setup a reverse proxy for my Tautulli and Ombi containers but I wanted to see where I should buy my domain first. I know it’s possible to just use DuckDNS as a solution but I wanted a cheap domain that my parents would remember. I was thinking under $5 for the year. I’m going to follow spaceinvader one’s guide on YouTube so if anyone has any advice, I’d greatly appreciate that as well.
