[PLUGIN] ZFS Master

if I go into the shares tab on the unRAID GUI I have a new share. It is called testdataset and it is set to use my cache pool, not the nvmecache pool.

Any manually created top level folder on a drive will see a share automatically created with default settings.

It is if you create shares (which is any top level folder) without using the GUI, if you create that share using the GUI, and select the zfs pool, it will create a dataset, and the share will then show correctly on the GUI then.

I used the 'create dataset' button in ZFS master to create a folder/dataset (at the top level). Later I noticed that unRAID created a share matching that dataset name and assigned it the incorrect primary storage.

It didn't seem to matter what unRAID did, the folder/dataset (and it's data) still only existed on the ZFS pool, but it was a but interesting to see that unRAID assigned the BTRFS pool as the primary share for it.

Thanks for the info. It is good to know that is 'normal'. I was mostly playing with ZFS at this point trying to get the feel for how I wanted to use it before moving all my data to the new ZFS cache pool.

Like mentioned the GUI is not aware of that, so it will just create the share with the default settings.

Hello

I have noticed a weird issue. The ZFS Master section in Main tab is blank for minutes when I am connected via local ip to unraid server. When I use my tailscale connection it's there instantly?

Hello everyone,

I think I've encountered a bug in the ZFS-Master plugin: Promoting a clone isn't working for me through the plugin. The clone icon isn't appearing on the original source. Promoting works fine using the CLI, and I can also delete (destroy) the original dataset onto the cloned dataset without any problems.

It's disastrous to do this through the plugin, because then everything is gone—the original and the clone!

Can anyone share their experience?
Unraid 7.2.4

I thought this plugin was dead?

Nothing shows on my screen for it since a few updates back. Versions 7 up I thought.

Should I follow this up here as an issue I have? Is it supposed to work ?

Works here. I'm on 7.3.0-beta1. Worked fine on stable too, I haven't noticed anything recent.

I am in the latest non beta. I have a blank screen. Previously turning off lazy load and auto refresh brought it back, but I have not seen anything on there for a while now. Both my cache nvms’s and ssd’s are zfs.

Daily I have zfs replication backups working of appdata. I can still use command line to restore one. Instructions for that setup from @SpaceInvaderOne .

Just been a while since the zfs master has showed anything.

I went back and did an AI search on the issue, and it seems the issue for me was that i had to just put some dummy data into the exclude folders setting. Even though there was nothing in there. It’s seems to be all back now.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your feedback.

The plugin is working fine for me in Unraid version 7.2.4.

What I'm interested in is promoting clones; that's not working for me. The process shows as OK, but the promotion itself isn't executed.

It works from the command line.

Hello,

I have migrated 2 disks in my array from ZFS to BTRFS but they still show in the ZFS Master view. The "update/refresh" button is not showing, what can I do to have the plugin register that two disks are no longer in ZFS?

Ok I found out that in the settings the refresh interval was disable so I re-enabled it briefly and now it's all good.

Is the manual refresh no longer possible?

The button's kinda messed up in the corner since this plugin hasn't been maintained in a long time and didn't get updated for 7.3's layout changes.

Ok thanks. Yes in non-tabbed view the button is there, but not in the tabbed view. I am on 7.2.3

I have two different unraid servers on different hardware. Both on 7.2.6 and ZFS Master shows no information. Manually refreshing does nothing either. I thought that I would try removing the plugin and adding it back but it just gets stuck at the "removing plugin" window and appears to do nothing (It did remove). I re-installed it again and it's behavior was the same.

I have this for a while - something 'hidden' had got into these values - needed to remove then and re-save.

Hello!

I also have some feedback. It is nice to be able do perform snapshots, however I see there is no scheduling function for snapshots. It would be nice if it could be scheduled. I see there are other plugins and scripts for such, but I think it would be nice if it was just part of ZFS Master.

Yes

For a while I've noticed that ZFS master information is kinda fcked up on the Main tab. Is it on my side somehow? Updates don't seem to resolve it...

No, plugin's been abandoned for a year and a half and never got updated for the 7.2 layout changes.

Frick... With the release of 7.3 this is even more of an issue... ZFS master sits itself in between pool devices and boot pools. Since you can now use the internal boot pool as a data partition having something sit in between is VERRY annoying... Is there any way to force ZFS master down bellow the Boot pool?

There seems to by a need for this in Unraid, so why can't it get added to the OS natively ?

I have it based on space invader recommendations a long while back when I implanted the bfs conversion and the sand bfs auto backups from his YouTube.

Maybe @SpaceInvaderOne could do a you tube on the command line things needed to get the same functionality, then we can drop an unsupported plugin ?

ZFS is still barely integrated with Unraid... Like the only thing you can natively do with the GUI is delete an empty, non snapshotted top level data set. That is about it... No UI for manual snapshots any snapshot will brick UIs ability to delete the dataset or at least any nested dataset with a snapshot will (I only tested those)... Honestly if it wasn't for this plugin I wouldn't be using ZFS at all.
