My backup is throwing an error every time it runs on the scehdule.. weirdly when I ran it manually just now I did not get this error...

I've done this so I'll have to let it run automatically now and report back.

the "Delete backups if they are this many days old:" settings doesn't seem to work for me, i still have backups from late december and early January even though my limit is set to 30 days.

Hello everyone.

First, I would thank KluthR the wonderful script. I use it every night, although, luckily, I have not used the restore functionality.

Second, I to share some thoughts and questions:

I do not compress the backup in order speed it up and reduce the downtime. I 7z it later using maximum compression.  If the script would compress the backup later (although using some temp space), this would be nice. (stop, copy, restart, compress). Then I would like to copy the compressed backup to another place, to maintain two copies.

 

For this, I would like to run a "post script", but I don't know how to do it.

First, for compressing using this sentence (7z added to command using nerdtools)

 

7z a /mnt/disk2/folder/fileBACKUP-"`date +"%Y-%m-%d"-"-%H-%M"`".7z /mnt/disk6/BufferBACKUP/ -mx9 -mmt4

 

And after that, for copying it.

 

I can see pre start script, but no post script options. Is that possible?.

Moreover, and for the same reasons, I compress both USB and Libvirt folder, so, I create 3 files, data named, and copy to another location. It may be useful to store that, not in folders, but in date name files, as de app folders.

Thank you so much for your help, the problem was traced to an unreadable file & folder on my cache drive, I had to format it to get rid! Backup now working as expected! 🙂

Ok I've checked that this was in the file now, and the output is largely the same.

 

The directory you mention does not exist, there is a ca.backup2/ folder but that has a tempFiles directory in it which is empty.

 

I can only think I'm doing something wrong, but I've checked and I updated the script correctly... and ideas?

How do i restore an individual container? I have a corrupt database.. I am not sure if the 1.2 month old backup will even be of a working database.  And perhaps i have a bigger problem, as i noticed that i have 2 non working docker containers.. both radarr and nyzbhydra2 stopped working... It probably took me over a month to see that this had happened.

is it still an issue that the whole backup-file gets marked as failed if there are changed files while the backup process?

 

Can we just ignore this error (as an option)? Because it's not an error for me if there are files (e.g. temp files within nzbget) which changed while backing up...

If I exclude a container's appdata directory from being backed up, will that container still be stopped and restarted even though it isn't being backed up. I can't quite tell from the UI. Thanks!

I ran in this... so yes even if you excluded the container-folder the stopping of the container isn't effected by this! So the container stopps and starts as every other container.

Of course, because it IS an issue. But you are able to ignore it by setting.

Click the backup/restore status tab in the settings pane.

Does it matter if you use a Disk location for the Appdata Share Source? ie. /mnt/cache/appdata/   while using a Share as a Destination? ie. /mnt/user/backups/appdata-backup

 

 

I know this practice is bad for moving data across the array.

That depends, winrar in windows does not copy symlinks for example. And I don't know if it preserves permissions either. Best way to do it is via the CLI. It's super simple and faster.

Any idea what I could try to solve this? For now I have set the backup to not stop this container and have also excluded its data folder.

the next version has debug infos for more diagnosis.

 

are you able to start the container manually?

do you have enabled Auto Update?

@KluthR yes I can start the container manually without any issues. Auto update is not enabled.
