Unraid OS Version 7.3.0-beta.1 Available!

Featured Replies

Unraid 7.3.0-beta.1 is now available!

This update includes internal boot as well as a new optional TPM 2.0 based license, plus numerous other enhancements and bug fixes! This is the first beta in this series, so expect some rough edges, especially around internal boot setup.

See all the details in the release notes.

Upgrade instructions are available in the docs.

If you're too lazy to read the release notes and want to setup internal boot, see here.

This announce post is perfect for quick questions or comments, but if you suspect there will be back and forth for your specific issue, please start a new topic in our new Prerelease Feedback Tracker! Be sure to include your diagnostics.zip.

Also! The Feedback Button in the GUI has been newly updated to go to our Prerelease Feedback Tracker, so try that out for a fast bug submission path!

  • The initial plan was to use Btrfs, which I'm also a big fan of, it has some advantages over ZFS, also some weaker points, notably the handling of dropped devices; they are not automatically brought up

I dont use zfs, anywhere on anything. My unpopular opinion is that Btrfs is the superior file system for use in the home lab. If the choice is internal boot with zfs or continuing to boot from a flash

Unraid 7.3.0-beta.1 is live, headlined by Internal Boot — the ability to boot Unraid from an NVMe, SSD, or eMMC instead of a USB flash drive.

Also in this release: ZFS improvements, File Manager performance, VM fixes, a new onboarding wizard for fresh installs, and Tailscale now has a proper home in the WebGUI.

Full details in the blog post: https://unraid.net/blog/unraid-7-3-beta.1

The new licensing to a tpm on motherboard is interesting. Saw no mention of the process going forward to transfer license from tpm to tpm when upgrading to new hardware.

Does this kernel release support intel quick sync out of the box?

Whats this? Unknown for both of my ZFS pools. One mirror (2 ssd drives) and one stripe (2 ssd drives). Nothing fancy or special. ;)

Chaps, what am I missing ?

I really want to be able to finally free up the motherboard usb controller for my VMs !!

Since the Linux Kernel used in version 7.3.0 is now version 6.18.18, that means that there are no reiserfs drivers in the kernel. (This information should probably be included in the release notes...)

Just one question, how this release working with Core Ultra and Intel Arc...

The fact that vIrtualizing Unraid is not officially supported?

If that's the case, there should be an outright block on upgrading if any reiserfs file systems are found.. along with an explanation of why.

Anyone moving to internal boot make sure secure boot is off. It typically isn’t a problem for USB Boot but it will be with internal boot.

Please create a new post in the general support forum and post the diagnostics.

Are you trying to use a virtual TPM? Note that is not supported; it must be hardware.

No, I show that on my print. I'm passing through the motherboard TPM, I'm not emulating one of course.

Freeing up the usb controller would be absolutely useful...

Yes and your point is?

My mistake. On second thought, I think that TPM licensing is not allowed for any virtualized Unraid install, only bare metal.

I have a 6 drive licence and would like to use a dedicated 16gb intel optane drive exclusively for this. Will the licence let me have this as a boot drive (no data/array) and keep my existing 6 drives?

Currently you cannot use a device exclusively for a boot pool, only up to 50% its size, so it still counts as a storage device, not sure if LT plans to change this in the future.

Thanks for your reply.

That's a shame. Fingers crossed this might change. I have another server with a pro licence that I also want to use this on, hopefully the 50% restriction won't be an issue.

Modern CPUs have a TPM inside... is this supported or do we need a Module for the TPM-header?

Linux kernel

Aaaahhhh, come on guys... surely you can come up with something! Having the USB controller free would make life so much easier. I understand you're covering your arses, but what’s stopping unRAID from pairing to the motherboard's physical TPM on a bare metal boot but continuing to work afterward in a VM with that same TPM passed through? What's the problem with this approach if any?

Are there no 7.3 installer yet? I want to do a fresh install.

It is offered in the USB creator.
