yanksno1
Looks like we're having that metadata issue again (or at least me). Wasn't it before on the TVBD's side? Def annoying when it happens. Hope they fix it soon. Quote Link to comment
garethsnaim
I am reluctant to blame unraid for that there has been scraping issues with TVDB for ages. I just flipped all the options over to Movie Database which does ok Quote Link to comment

Thanks, at least it wasn't just me and it's not the docker. Would be nice if the TVDB could get their act together and stop breaking things. It'd be even nicer if Plex had their own platform that pulled the metadata so it wasn't relying on 3rd party systems that breaks every so often. garethsnaim
I wonder it TVDB does not want plex pulling on it, it does seem to break very often and its hard to know whos fault it is. Mine did eventually scrape last night. This particular docker though, well plex is not great through it. You cannot scrub for instance, trying to fast forward simply does not work once you have fast forwarded you then have to stop the playing movie and restart it for it to pick up where you scrubbed to and play No such issues in the VM version. Its a shame, I'll stick with it for now. I am trying to get my head around dockers, they are super super unfriendly for average joes, very geeky stuff. I also notice there are like a million available for unraid and 90% of them seem to be redundant or dumb stuff like the webgui is on port 80 etc. Hey ho. Quote Link to comment
superloopy1
Guys, now have plex running aok to my knowledge. Quick question ... hwo do you mange the location of metadata and whats the recommended method of backing it up. Mine is sitting in the original folder within appdata. Appdata itself is on cached single ssd. Should i be looking to move it and/or back it up. if i wanted it on its own ssd how do i go about setting it up that way to point at its own metadata 'share'?? thunderclap
I’m not sure exactly what happened in the last week, but suddenly certain media that played fine no longer plays remotely. I have a friend who uses Plex on his Roku and another who uses Plex on his TV, neither of which can access certain files anymore. I’ve tested it on my iPhone using my cell provider instead of WIFI as well as plex.tv through my web browser and can confirm it happens to me too. As far as I can tell nothing has changed, and the files vary from MKV to MP4, 720p to 1080p. When I go to Playback Info on my phone the Transcode Reason for not playing is: Not enough bandwidth for direct play of this item. Required bandwidth <###>kbps and only 1500kbps is available. (The ### varies but is always higher than 1500.) I assume this is why they're having issues too. I would think that Plex would auto transcode to a lower bitrate so the video could play, but that doesn't seem to be the case and sticks with Direct Play. But, again, this wasn’t happening a week ago and no settings have changed that I can tell. Can anyone give me a few ideas what’s going on and how I can resolve it? Is this a docker issue, an unRAID issue, or something with Plex? Has anyone encountered this before? Quote Link to comment
ShangHangin
When I updated to Unraid 6.8.1, it broke binhex-plex. All my dockers restarted cleanly, but this one - got a "Execution Error" dialogue box. Upon restoring to 6.8.0, everything worked fine. I am running transcoding in an Nvidia GPU. Sorry I did not pull log files, as I was short on time. Any thoughts? Quote Link to comment
jebusfreek666
I don't think this is the correct place to post this, but seeing as how I am not sure what docker I would use for this and the media will be used by plex, I will start here. I am looking for an easy way to search through all my media to determine what format/codecs it uses. All of my media has been renamed by sonarr/radarr, so it can not just read the file name. I know I can individually pull up each movie/tv episode in plex and it will tell me but I have nearly 2000 movies and 39000 tv show episodes. So this would be insanely time consuming. I am looking for a way to target everything that is not in a "direct play friendly" format for plex. I will then either re-encode the files, or redownload. This server currently holds upto 1080p bluray, no remux or 4k. As I understand it, to allow for the most widely accepted format for direct stream, my media should be: Container: mp4 Resolution: 1920x1080 or lower Video Codec: H.264 (level 4.0 or lower) Video Framerate: 30fps Video Bit Depth: 8 Audio Codec: AAC Audio Channels: 2 Bitrate: 20Mbps or lower I would like to retain 5.1 sound if possible. I also prefer mkv over mp4 (smaller size), but if it will allow direct stream for more devices I will bite the bullet and sacrifice more space. I am also looking for suggestions on how to re-encode? I have tried handbrake on unraid, and it is a beast to use. For some reason, I can just not get it to work the way I want. If this is the best option, then I will keep on trying. But if there is another option that is better, please let me know. So, to recapp: 1. How do I determine, quicly and easily, which files need to be converted? 2. What is the best way to convert? yanksno1
Any of you guys have Remote Access stop working for you earlier today? It was working fine and then all of the sudden can't access the port. Have a friend who on his Plex server (not this docker though) said the same thing happened to him. EDIT: Should mention Plex does seem to connect to Remote Access at first, then disconnects a short time after. EDIT #2: Looked and I'm on Plex Version No. 1.18.2.2058. Also see other people are having this issue. Took off port forwarding off Plex, reconnected and seems I'm back for now (*knocks on wood). Don't get it. Lakini
As of this morning my docker container for Plex is no longer loading. I have removed the container and rebuilt it but still having no luck. Looking at the logs for the container it looks like it is dying trying to start plex, but the log file is not giving me much info, or at least not much that I understand. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the container log file. I am running unraid 6.8.1 and running the latest binhex-plex docker image.plex_log.txt Quote Link to comment
jebusfreek666
I have went back a couple pages to see if I could find an answer, but it doesn't seem to be something others are having an issue with. I just installed the nvidia plugin. I tried to set it up with the parameters laid out in spaceinvaders video, but I could not get it to transcode via the GPU with the binhex plex docker. I then realized he was using the linuxserver version. I added that docker as well, and it all worked off the bat. Is there any way to get support for nvidia gpu transcoding with the binhex plex docker? Would really like to keep using this one instead of having to migrate my libraries over. Plus the support on binhex dockers seems to be much better. Quote Link to comment

I tried the linuxserver plex container and had the same behavior as this binhex one. I then installed the official plex container and it finally showed me where I could add media. The only difference between the 3 dockers that I could see was the official one made you "claim" your server. Not sure if that matters or not but I'm up. Had exactly the same experience, and actually messed it up more than you did of which I'll spare you the details, let me just say I'm now at my third email account at Plex 🤨 which is kinda weird since I'm a Plex user since about day 1 when they forked from XMBC (now Kodi). Not sure if that says more about Plex and how it works ... or me 😁 The only difference I see between the Binhex/Linuxserver docker templates is indeed that you have to fill in a claim code after retrieving it through https://www.plex.tv/claim/ after which you go through the Plex setup wizard to set a name for your server, add libraries and so on. For the binhex/linuxsever dockers you never arrive at that, you just land in the Plex web app without a way to access the server. For some dumb reason that I can't explain, you have to enter both variable twice. I added them both twice and now it works. Thinking maybe I messed up the first time, I deleted the first set of variables, leaving only one set. After doing that, the hardware transcoding stopped working again. Then I added back the second identical set of variables, and it works again. I can't explain it, but there it is.... Edit: Ignore the above post. It was pointed out to me that there may be a hidden space from copy/paste. After examining the run command I found that to be the case. Re-did it by typing instead of copy/paste and now it works as expected. Edited February 1, 2020 by jebusfreek666 1 Quote Link to comment

Does plex require a functional internet connection to watch your own media inside your own LAN? Sorry for not responding sooner. Yes, normally their servers act as gatekeepers between the public internet and your Plex server. When their auth servers fail, you therefore cannot log in and get to your own media. Apparently there is a method (which I've not yet tested and needs configuring in advance!) for serving media directly via DLNA (without any internet dependency) here: https://www.howtogeek.com/303282/how-to-use-plex-media-server-without-internet-access/ Quote Link to comment

wackydog
Hi all, I have lost access to my Plex server. I was on the Plex.tv site from work and I decided to change my password. Big mistake. I checked the box to invalidate all connected devices, and I lost access to the server. I thought I'd just be able to restart it when I got home, but no. I can restart, but port 32400 on my local network no longer delivers anything. I ran: lsof -i -P -n | grep LISTEN from the shell, and it says: docker-pr 22409 root 4u IPv6 323760312 0t0 TCP *:32400 (LISTEN) So it looks like it's listening. I tried to adjust the Preferences.xml as indicated here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/ but there is no change. In looking at the plex server log, the server appears to be shutting down (though the docker continues to run with no docker log errors). There are messages involving plex.tv, but I don't really understand much of what's going on in there. I've attached a plex server log of a complete startup. If anyone has an idea I'd love to hear it. NitroNine
Is there anyway to force it to set everything up fresh? I don't care at this point to save any meta data or watch history. I even tried installing plex server on my windows box and get the same screen when I log in, Add your media to Plex and install plex media server screen. Quote Link to comment
