ridley
I am after a way of relatively quickly moving a large amount of data from a folder on one user share to another user share. Recommendations please. Quote Link to comment
Squid
midnight commander (mc) at the command prompt or the Dolphin / Krusader docker applications. They will all be far faster that doing it over the network Quote Link to comment
strike
If all the disks are included in each user share wouldn't the move be almost instant? I mean the files are already there on the disks they are just moving to a new share right? At least if you move between disk shares it should work like that. I guess if you move between user shares it might trigger a disk move? If I'd want the files to stay where they are and just move to a new share I would just move between disk shares. More work if you have a lot of disks but in the end you would save a lot of time. Quote Link to comment
ridley
Can Dolphin move as apposed to copy? I have it loaded and cannot see a way. I will not have enough space to copy. Quote Link to comment
ridley
I am also trying t install Krusader. What should I set the "Host path1" and "Host Path 2" to? Quote Link to comment
trurl
I have tried Krusader and Dolphin, but really, mc (Midnight Commander) is easy to use and you don't have to install anything. And if you are just moving from one folder on one disk to another folder on the same disk it will be almost instantaneous. Quote Link to comment
ridley
It is a large amount of data from one user share to another, so not necessarily the same disks. Quote Link to comment

If not the same disk then not instantaneous, but I would still use mc, perhaps in a screen session. Screen can be added from NerdTools. Quote Link to comment

Screen can be added from NerdTools. mc allows for background copy or move operations, this won't require screen. Quote Link to comment
etsi
Midnight Commander is the best reliable option. Quote Link to comment
dopeytree
How do you come back to MC and see the copy progress of a large move Quote Link to comment
