Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array

Recommended Posts

I know this is most likely a very simple issue but on one of my 3 pro unraid servers, my unassigned devices constantly looking for devices and never populates, on top of that i can not search or connect a remote share... i have matched settings from all 3 systems and just this one does this.

Suggestions? what information can i post that you can use to check it?

A couple suggestions:

  • Remove all the UD disks if possible.
  • Set the "Debug Log Level" to "Udev and Hotplug", navigate to the UD page for a minute or so, then post new diagnostics.  Go back and set the "Debug Log Level" back to none, because the debug messages can be quite chatty.

I removed any unassigned drives and rebooted. i even uninstalled the plugin /deleted the file for unassigned in the config folder and then re-installed.. same thing over and over.

here is the new diag.

I'm trying to come up with a debug mode so I can find out where UD is getting stuck.

Noticed this image.thumb.png.fb1c9cee43e5fadd60732bff38b717db.png

So I stopped the array, added 2 of them as they are similar 1 TB drives to the main array, and created a new pool device which was the 8 Gig USB drive.. now i no longer have any devices that are unassigned but i do not get the option to format the 2 (1TB Drives ) i just added to my main array.. it wants to clear instead.

Another debu/diagnostic for your review.

plus i removed all of the custom docker networks leaving only the default ones..

This is expected!   When adding drives to an array the drives first have to be cleared (zeroes written to every sector) so that they do not impact parity.  Once that has completed then you will be able to format them (which is very quick).

So through out all your tests, UD is still showing the Unraid wave constantly?

Do you have any remote shares set up or mounted in UD?

Correct. the status still has not changed, i have 0 remote connections and share set up.. i also removed the 8gig flash drive that was in addition to the Unraid flash drive... also removed the usb plugin's.. i have made drastic changes, removed plugin's and it still gives me the waves.

after the clear you were correct the option to format shows now in the mian window at the bottom where the parity check is listed but because of the unassigned devices plugin not responding i can not format the drives indiviually. so i can not select the individual drive and modify

I'm suspecting a php error/warning.  Any chance you'd be comfortable updating to 6.12.rc?  It has the php logging that might help here.

I have no issue with that.. however i had attempted to run this and lost access to file manager and reverted this version back but let see what it will do.

stand by I will update and bounce it in a few min

Once you upgrade, go to Tools->PHP Settings and "All Categories" for "Error Reporting Level".  Then go to the UD page and let it sit for a bit.  Then go back to the PHP Settings page and look at the log.  Report the errors/warnings back here.

but yet i still cant see anything for unassigned devices and i can not get a remote share connected.... including the latest Diag from right now.. maybe you see something i do not.

I'll release an update to UD today with some debugging to help find where UD is getting hung.

new delema now.... rebooted server and the cache drives names changed and wont start the array, and im not sure how to get the names to match especially without the unassigned devices plugin active for it..  when i went into disks under the plugin it shows nothing for drives and no ability to rename either.

now system down..

Pool devices are not unassigned devices.

Re-assign the disks to the slots.  You can figure out which disks go where by the last part of the serial numbers.

@Wiseone001do what Dan mentioned but before, unassign all pool devices, start array, stop array, now re-assign all pool devices, if not the red xs will still be there next time.

I have the array started again, it was for my cache pool, if i lost it because of name change it would have wiped all the appdata etc..

I was able to get it back by installing another plugin.
