JorgeB
Okay got myself a Adaptec 1430SA which should arrive in a couple of days. Is this card plug and play, which i have read in the first post here or do i have to disable the card bios etc. like it ist described in the Wiki? Should be plug n play, didn’t need to disable bios on mine, it needs latest firmware for >2tb support. Link to comment

bigdog66
well after a few years of rock solid use and just upgrading the size of my six on board disks I decided to finally break down and buy a controller card thought about the dell card but found the issue where you have to tape over certain pins and didn't like the idea of that and decided on what I thought was a old trusty supermicro card by now the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 It has already shipped so hopefully I didn't screw myself over with this decision as I didn't see the possible issue with it until now crossing my fingers lol Link to comment
Fireball3
There is only this real issue with the Supermicro card: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=42629.0 Link to comment
Spritzup
Any feedback, or any reason to think that the SuperMicro AOC-S2308L would not be supported and/or have issues? ~Spritz EDIT - It drive appears to be part of the base Linux 3.x (and up) kernel, so I'm pretty confident it should work. Fireball3
AOC-S2308L-L8e is an HBA thus it should work. There is a remark however that's confusing me: All standard cards (i.e. Identified w/ two red stars) cannot be used w/ non-SMCI system On the other hand, this remark is also valid for AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 which is known to work in non-SMCI systems... CrashnBrn
Can anyone tell me the difference between the Dell H310 and the LSI SAS9211-8i? I can't seem to find a comparison in regards to unraid v6. Thanks! Link to comment

Also was wondering if the H310 ran as hot as the LSI? Link to comment

Also was wondering if the H310 ran as hot as the LSI? Yes and yes. These controllers need some airflow near them, or they run very hot, a standard 80mm or 120mm fan blowing some air on the heatsink is enough. Link to comment

I've one different manufacturer, but virtually identical, same marvell 9230 chipset, it works fine but there could be issues if you use virtualization. Link to comment

The system saw them right away (but had changed 2 of the sdX numbers, on the discs connected to the mobo) Got it sorted and are now doing some preclearing. Link to comment
JorgeB
The system saw them right away (but had changed 2 of the sdX numbers, on the discs connected to the mobo) That's normal and OK, it can even change between reboots with same hardware, unRAID tracks disks by serial number. Link to comment
blknitro11
Would there be any reason not to buy this card? LSI-SAS-9210-8i Link to comment
BobPhoenix
Would there be any reason not to buy this card? LSI-SAS-9210-8i I might get one myself. It looks like it should work fine once flashed to IT mode. Based on comparison here: http://www.servethehome.com/current-lsi-hba-controller-features-compared/ The only thing that might turn me off of them is that they come from China and I could swear I saw posts of counterfeit M1015s coming out of China on eBay. I read a lot of the feedback on that seller, no one has complained or mentioned about any counterfeits. Maybe worth checking out. How would you know if it's a counterfeit? Link to comment
