[Support] Djoss - MakeMKV

Featured Replies

First off, huge shoutout to Djoss for this container!

Somewhat recently I have discovered and issue with the autoripper which did not occur before. Unfortunately since my frequency of buying new discs has slowed down I can't pinpoint exactly when it started to occur.

I have two drives connected to my server with them both passed through to the container using the /dev/srX and /dev/sgY variables and when I have the autoripper enabled to do full disc backups, I get a lot of thrashing on my drives like they are failing to properly read the discs. If I let the drives go they will basically get stuck trying to read what seems like indefinitely.

When I disable the autoripper and do a manual full backup the thrashing is gone and normal transfers occur.

I feel like at least with my configuration I have narrowed down the variables to it being directly related to the autoripping feature, so thought I would mention it here in case anyone has any ideas.

  • Note that there is currently an issue with the automatic disc ripper for people using the beta key (MakeMKV version is expired). A Docker image update will be available soon to address this.

  • Same thing as an internal drive.  In my case, the device is /dev/sr0, so I just add --device /dev/sr0 in extra parameters.

  • So maybe one solution is to add support for simultaneous disc ripping within the same container

I'm sorry if this is something simple, but I'm still getting the hang of working w/ docker containers and my MakeMKV (as well as Handbrake) container won't load the web GUI and gives me this error below

I tried reinstalling multiple times and checked the log and there is no more details reported so far it's only these two containers w/ this issue

Which browser are you using ?  Do you have the same issue with another one ?

Note that these kind of problems can also be created by browser's plugins/extensions.

Do you have the issue when ripping 1 or 2 discs at time ?

Thank you for that response, I hadn't even think to try a different browser and it was one of my extensions causing it to not work.  I appreciate this so much.

Thank you for the response! I have tried it with just one disc at a time and ran into the issue.

Hello again! I wanted to circle back around and let you know I have resolved this issue.

I am a dummy and had forgotten that I had enabled "privileged" mode on the docker container during troubleshooting a while back, even though I had everything manually mapped and passed through. That could possibly explain the reason I heard so much "thrashing" of the optical drives due to conflicts.

Anyway, wanted to thank you again for the awesome container and let you know my issue was PEBCAK.

I just tried to rip my UHD 4K version of Rise of the Planet of the Apes and makemkv gave me two files that are roughly identical in size, 40gb. It seems as if makemkv ripped each layer separately instead of making one contiguous file.

The discs have separate tracks for the Eng/Jap and the Eng/EU Langs.

Hi - this doesn't appear to auto update to a new BETA key. I've never used this container before but I thought I would try it out and perhaps I'm doing something wrong. Let me know if I did something wrong. Screenshots attached.

This is normal.  The current beta key is expired and a new one is not available yet.  It can take few days before a new key is made available by the author of MakeMKV.

You used the program, the key expired, so BUY the Program!

What I wrote: "I've never used this container"

What you wrote: "You used the program"

Not sure how else to word it. I've never used it, so what should I buy? Something that doesn't appear to work?

Thanks for the other replies; I'll wait for a new BETA key (because apparently it's free to use during BETA, so, no purchase necessary?)

Yes it free during beta, doesn’t mean you cannot buy it to support the developer!

If you use it for more than 1 key cycle, you should buy it, that what keeps development alive! Or you could just keep complaining when a new key is not published right away and maybe 1 day development stops.

I was not complaining, I thought I was reporting an unknown error, which would be helpful you would think. Instead, I'm getting a rash of crap from you for not buying something that I've never used? I'm all about supporting developers, I pay for software all the time and I have numerous patreon subs, but this container hasn't done anything for me, so why the soap box speech? It doesn't run, it force closes before you can even look at the menus or poke around at all.

What's your deal man? Are you ok?

It's working now. Stad you are totally in the right here. I found this thread searching for the same issue. Your post was spot on describing the issue and Djoss provided the information I was also looking for.

spl147's response was totally unnecessary and uncalled for.

Back to the docker. This implementation is great. It takes a moment to get it dialed in, but once you do, it performs really well.

Paid! This software works great and is exactly what I was looking for.

Take care.

This container stopped working for me and I can't seem to figure out why. MakeMKV can't find any optical drives.

The logs seem to indicate that it does successfully find an optical drive but then why I enter the GUI there isn't one available.

This issue has been seen in the past and  people reported that a reboot of the host fixed the problem.

  • 4 weeks later...

I am new to unraid

I have installed makemkv docker container

tried to launch it and I am getting a message to say that the licence key has expired

then I get another pop up to say that the application needs updating and to reload it

It is then unable to launch

I have checked for updates and there aren't any

the container I am using is jlesage/makemkv

Unraid version is Version: 6.12.6

I am new to unraid

I have installed makemkv docker container

tried to launch it and I am getting a message to say that the licence key has expired

then I get another pop up to say that the application needs updating and to reload it

It is then unable to launch

I have checked for updates and there aren't any

the container I am using is jlesage/makemkv

Unraid version is Version: 6.12.6

The current beta key is expired.  We need to wait for the MakeMKV author to publish a new one.

See https://github.com/jlesage/docker-makemkv#expired-beta-key

How do I go about setting the output directory into a share folder that already exists, such as "/output/Movies/Godzilla (1998)"?

When I try this I get a popup saying that directory is invalid.

Does this directory have proper permissions to allow the container to write to it ?

I have it fixed now. I believe the issue was that I had changed the USER ID to something other than the default, changing it back after I noticed fixed it.
