  1. Thank you for for your write up. If I see positive comments from others saying it was helpful, I'll probably move the whole thread back into the guides section instead of the lounge. If you want to start a clean thread there with just the steps and notes instead of moving this thread, let me know. As you now know, documentation is a weak point of Unraid, we appreciate anyone willing to take the time to do writeups that are helpful to others. The reason your post was initially moved OUT of the guides area was that it was NOT a guide at that point, it was a request for support, hoping to turn into a guide.
  2. Probably not, since that filename indicates a partial download instead of the full zip file.
  3. Perhaps you should follow through?
  4. It's still a thing if you a. have imperfect hardware, BTRFS seems to be less resilient to crashes and such b. fill the filesystem all the way up. BTRFS gets very upset when it doesn't have room to do its filesystem stuff. b is by far the most common thing we see, improper settings can fill a volume very quickly. Educate yourself on how to adjust where Unraid decides to put data. Be sure you never put yourself in a position to totally fill any single volume or drive.
  5. I would do a full backup and restore it to the VM using acronis or some other windows image backup program. Do you already have a running windows 11 VM? If so, maybe it would be easier to do a migration to that VM.
  6. How so? With all my running servers I've only swapped 3 failed flashdrives in all the years I've been running them. It's not a common occurrence normally.
  7. It can mean that, but it's more likely to be a connection issue. Any time Unraid wants to write data to a disk and the data doesn't successfully get written, the disk is disabled. Why the write failed isn't known by Unraid, you need to investigate whether the disk is still fit for use, the SMART report is the first place to look. If the disk will successfully complete an extended test it's probably OK to continue use.
  8. Pretty sure that Unraid excludes the boot / license volume in the device count regardless of what it is. The real question here is whether the controller circuits that are critical to the GUID license link are going to be more durable long term than regular USB sticks. At least with separately removable media you can more easily use a backup without needing internet access to transfer a license.
  9. Yes, assuming there are NO writes after the preclear signature was successfully written.
  10. I'd recommend using appropriate insulation to cover the circuit boards if you want to put these inside your case. Either design and 3d print some sort of case for it, or maybe wrap it in Kapton tape. (generic available for cheap) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017CSQJ6G/
  11. Don't use a low profile, mount it inside the case instead. Your motherboard should have USB headers inside, probably 10 pin with one corner pin missing for keying. Adapters are cheap. If the motherboard is cramped, one of these, If the motherboard has room, Internal with a full format USB stick is much preferable, no risk of snapping it off, or being removed by accident, plus full size sticks are typically better with heat dissipation, increasing the longevity of the drive.
  12. Is this possibly the issue? https://forums.unraid.net/topic/116933-solved-please-help-tv-shows-are-getting-deleted-automatically/?do=findComment&comment=1068346
  13. I understand, but I seem to recall issues with using it for array copies. Maybe give Unstoppable Copier a try? It's old, but still works fine for me.
  14. This, theoretically. But you can new config, keep all, and just change what needs to be changed.
  15. Up to the level of pool redundancy. Beyond that, everything is lost. In the traditional Unraid array each drive is still readable, so even if you've lost all but one disk, whatever is on that one disk is still readable.
  16. It's meant to be used in a rackmount server, where fan walls force air over all slots. You must provide active airflow somehow.
  17. Look in the config folder on the flash drive for multiple files named *.key
  18. memtest86 can run off a flash drive, so boot off the flash you create for memtest instead of the Unraid flash.
  19. 640K should be enough for anybody 😁
  20. No. You can use the Dynamix File Manager to move data to another drive.
  21. The parity protected array will be just another pool type soon™, with no requirement to use it. It will still be available for those wishing to use it for all the original benefits it gives for spinning rust, separate file systems per volume, ability to spin down when not accessed, etc. The current requirement of a single volume assigned as disk1 to start the pools will go away.
