Unassigned Devices - Managing Disk Drives and Remote Shares Outside of The Unraid Array

Yes, there are several ways to accomplish this already. Midnight Commander, Krusader docker, share the UD disk on the network and use Windows Explorer, command line.

i LOVE Total Commander so Midnight Commander was perfect for me! Thank you guys!!! :)

But i got such a weird problem. i have a server with ESXi and on that i run pfSense, WinServer2016, unRAID and the drive before this one was the same make and model (wd red 8tb) and everything was the same but i moved the information from my VM WinServer2016 because i did not know about this plugin and when i did so i got a transfer speed of 175mb/s and at first i did the same with this drive (and both are brand new btw) but this time around i only got 50 mb/s so i moved the disk over to my HBA card and used this plugin to mount the drive and still i only get 50mb/s and i can't understand why!!!!

Any chance of MTP or PTP support?

In other words, When you plug in an Android Device (Phone) into UnRAID server via USB, Unassigned Devices plugin does not detect it for use. Any chance of fixing this?

Can't you just get your Android Device to connect as USB Storage?

Can you? Only super old school Android devices use the standard USB storage......now and days, Android uses MTP or PTP protocol.

Update: Android dropped USB Mass-Storage protocol since around KitKat (Android 4.x).......That is WAY long time ago. I guess they did it for security reasons. THe MTP protocol is much more strict about what you can and cannot do.

Hi,

I've just upgraded my Unraid server to the latest version the UD plugin is now sitting at the following;

Attached are my diagnostics.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You have an extremely old version of UD - 'unassigned.devices.plg - 2015.09.28b'.  Please update.

Also remove these plugins:

preclear.disk.plg - 2017.09.27

statistics.sender.plg - 2017.06.22

You should also move these plugins to Dockers:

Couchpotato.plg - 2016.09.17.1
Sabnzbd.plg - 2016.11.29.1
Sickbeard.plg - 2016.09.17.1

Install the Community Applications plugin.

EDIT: Watch this video on some essential plugins:

Noticed today as I finished changing the mobo/chipset on my server, that there is a spot to enter drive warranty and purchased date info in SMART attribute area, thought this would be good for ease of record keeping and future reporting. (not sure if this is attached to device, or something handy unRAID has tacked on)

However when it came to unassigned devices, these attributes seem to be shared across all UD devices.

Although not by any means a high priority, it would be nice if this was simple/quick to resolve.

That functionality is a part of unRAID and not the UD plugin.  You will need to request that of LT.

This would be really nice, but in the meantime, the Server Layout plugin will allow you to keep a manual record of the purchase date.

Hey dlandon, awesome plugin - is there any way to mount the drives via UAD using a terminal command? I'm looking to set up an automated script like this:

1. stop docker "X"

2. mount /dev/sdg via UAD (this disk was previously spundown using hdparm and has been previously mounted and listed in UAD)

3. execute rsync jobs from docker "X" data to /dev/sdg/

4. unmount /dev/sdg

5. restart docker "X"

6. spindown /dev/sdg using hdparm

When I try using the "mount" command in terminal I end up with a folder named "clean-me" in /mnt/disks and nothing else (there are other disks mounted in UAD which I would have expected to see). I fixed this by rebooting the server.

Am I missing something in my mount command?

If I understand you correctly, you can go to the UD page and click the help button.  The help describes how to use the UD script to mount and unmount disks.

Well, woke up this morning and seeing something strange going on with my unassigned disk.  Can't access the disk all of a sudden via Windows 10 laptop.  I can login to Tower and using MC get to it and as well I can access the files via Emby Server Console.

When I go to the Tower Main Gui Page I see the following error

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/unassigned.devices/include/lib.php on line 925 Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /usr/local/emhttp/plugins/unassigned.devices/include/lib.php on

I tried unmounting the drive and remounting...same problem.  I then went to the Apps page and see this error....what the heck is going on?  Everything was fine last night when I went to bed.  Attached is my syslog.  I'm seeing lots of warnings on my disk...not sure exactly what it means..

I don't think you are using the latest version  of UD.  Line 925 in the lib.php is not a foreach().  Update UD.

Because the flash drive was offline, no matter what unRaid will want to do a parity check (because it couldn't save the fact that it was a clean shutdown)

Your decision to make is was the shutdown actually clean or not?  If you think it was clean, then cancel it.  If not, then either keep the parity check running or cancel.  Up to you...

I believe it has to be purchased, is that correct?

You can actually backup everything to a new flash drive and if you use the new drive to boot the system a key mismatch will be detected and trigger an automated system allowing you to install a free replacement key. My understanding is that the old key will be blacklisted and no longer usable.

Why are you trying to mount the drive if you're going to format it?  Just delete the partition and re-format it.  The drive has file errors and won't mount.
