[PLUGIN] Disk Location

Featured Replies

Ok, thanks. All people that reboot (or scan smart) will probably get this alert if on latest plugin until this is fixed. There's one report in the bug reports part of the forum.

I had to reboot one of my servers tonight and can confirm I got the alert, definitely got my attention.  I am running 2025.05.17 version of the app on Unraid 7.0.1.

I rebooted my other server and received the error but it actually showed a drive that was from the deleted devices list from the devices.json file.  This was a drive I used for initial testing but not sure why it was picked up as device sda.  That is not a big deal but I wanted to mention it in case it helps @FlamongOle with code troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Update 2025.05.19

  • Commit #425 - BUG: Flash devices etc. alerted falsely. Added more SMART checks to prevent this from happening.

FORCE SMART+DB update must be done for those affected with this bug.

Hi all,

One of my NVME drives showed a blinking orange warning light in Disk Location.  When i go in I see this warning against the drive with an N/A in the acknowledgement field:

Read Self-test Log failed: Invalid Field in Command (0x4002)

Can anyone tell me what this means.  Is it an issue with the drive? Bug in Drive Location?

Thanks,

Dwarfboysim

It's been answered here already. Please update to latest version and run Force SMART+DB.

I just upgraded to 7.0.0 and was looking to update all my plugins and noticed that Disk Location states "not available" in the Status Column (see pic). Is there a problem I need to fix on my side after the 7.0.0 update?

@jeffreywhunter you need to uninstall and re-install the plugin.  That will get you the latest version.  Make a backup just in case before you do but it should convert fine.

Updated to 2025.05.19 this morning on both my servers and the false alert is gone.  Thanks!

Update 2025.05.22

  • Commit #430 - IMPROVEMENT: Assignments are now done with physical tray layout, and not TrayID (it's still TrayID under the hood, but hidden from GUI).

  • Commit #429 - IMPROVEMENT: Added possibility to reset temporary files. Reset "temporary files" under System tab will now delete SMART data and others in tmp. Force SMART required after execution.

  • Commit #428 - ENHANCEMENT: Fetch more data from SMART files rather than DB. SMART files in temp folders holds more recent data, so this will be prioritized when reading increasing parameters.

  • Commit #427 - MINOR: Benchmark for removed devices visible. Hide benchmark for removed devices, these can still be retrieved by raw download.

@Frank Ruhl and @CheekyPanda (and probably others), you should be happy now (#430, if it works :p)

Perfect thanks! Much improved version!!!

Just installed this plugin, it looks really nice but I'm having some issues. When I use the locate function, it does not light anything up on my HDDs. Additionally, whenever I try to assign any drive to a group/tray and hit save the screen goes blank (attached image) and if I click back into the plugin nothing has saved.

Can be several things. If the drive is in use while benchmarking, the values will be lower.

But likely this is the actual speed of the SSD, cache is bypassed (which you'll often see higher speeds from). Some SSDs are in fact just slow in read and write, but they still feel faster than spinning drives because of no seek time.

Odd that 2 of the same drive would be so different, unless one was in use at the time.

Oh well, neither is the fastest thing in the world, so I'm not really too worried about it. I've got monthly tests set up now, so we'll see if that one remains slow, or if it was a one-off.

Thanks.

Ye, don't assume things just by looking at the benchmarking. It's rather more relevant for the mechanical drives anyway and it's rather an indicator if a drastically speed decrease happens over time. I would read too much into it with SSDs.

Please give me the relevant output of the php log.

Do you create stuff from scratch, or do you expand current setup?

Hey everyone, maybe I'm missing something, but I can't seem to get this plugin to work.

Every time I try to assign a location for a drive and try to save I just get this black screen that does nothing. Then when I reload or go back into tools it hasn't saved the location.

I've wiped and reinstalled twice, but it's still the same thing. Am I missing something or is this a bug? Any help would be great! Thanks!

This seems to have solved the issue for me, thanks! I do get this error for the drives I haven't assigned yet, but it assigns the ones I did choose and the error isn't really an issue.

Edit: I still can't utilize the locate function, but it could be some issue with my hardware... I'm not sure. My top LEDs work fine, but the bottom ones utilized for locate are not lit up at all. Anyways, I'll probably have to manually locate them when I get a chance to stop and start the array a few times.image.png

Ah! Thanks for that info, now I remember why this was earlier ignored to post an error message :P I'll remove that again unless I find a way to distinguish that.
