Try uninstalling the preclear plugin

Seems to be working so farf. And the plugin issue update is resolved now too (some weird router error). Thanks for your help.

Is there now a known issue with the preclear plugin and v6.4?

Download   If you are running a previous stable release, clicking 'Check for Updates' on the Plugins page is the preferred way to upgrade. If you are running a 6.4.0-rc, click 'Check fo

Not criticizing. It's just that simple answers to simple questions often lead to more questions, some of which may have already been answered.   By the way, we are all mostly just volunteers

For PFSense if you're using unbound dns resolver just put into custom options and this will work correctly server: private-domain: "unraid.net"

Some users have nothing but problems with the preclear plugin installed (specifically with the rc.diskinfo) whereas others do not.  Doesn't seem to matter whether its 6.3 or 6.4

I'm conflicted (and have been for awhile) on what to do with regards to Preclear and any moderator comments within CA or FCP.

You need to find the section where you see "menu default" - that is the section used for default boot-up.  For example, suppose you are booting normally (not console-gui mode), you would change:

label unRAID OS
  menu default
  kernel /bzimage
  append initrd=/bzroot

to:

label unRAID OS
  menu default
  kernel /bzimage
  append initrd=/bzroot rcu_nocbs=0-15

That's it.  Then reboot.

Change is made.  I'll test and report back.

Full disclosure, my append line has some extra baggage:

label unRAID OS
  menu default
  kernel /bzimage
  append initrd=/bzroot acpi_enforce_resources=lax kvm_intel.nested=1 rcu_nocbs=0-15

Okay, so where to go from here?

I've been running in safe mode for a few hours, and no issues.  I've yet to freeze up.  By now, without safe mode, I'd have almost certainly had to do a hard reboot.

Where does the diag nostic process go from here since I'm not facing issues?

Just in case, here is the current diagnostics:

unraid-diagnostics-20180114-1527.zip

Hope I can get this to run cause I'm loving this new snappy Web UI!  Besides the fact that it's spread out edge to edge with 0 padding.  That's a bit awkward.

THanks for the info, but I spoke too soon lol. Lost user shares again. I have 8gb of memory, no vms and only Krusader docker running. I didn't see these errors in the log on the previous crash.

Shouldn't you use kvm_amd.nested=1?

I just updated my system to 6.4.0 without any issues, it took approx 10-15 minutes

Brief description of my system:

- Gigabyte H270N-WIFI motherboard, 16GB DDR4 and an Intel Pentium G4560 (3,5 GHz)

- array consists of 5x 3TB WD Red HDD's and a 120GB SSD for caching

- use Docker containers for MySQL, Apache webservers, Plex and Duplicati (all work fine)

- VM are not in use (currently)

Update:--> Docker LetsEncrypt raises some issues, which I need to investigate. The log of this docker now reports

Found some information here, but I will need to investigate some more.

Thank you very much

I am also having this issue. DId you find a solution?

Yeah, IDK.  NFS sharing just up and wanted more memory, it wasn't available, so it killed off something.  Weird thing though is that "notify" segfaulted a minute before that happened.  Don't know if they are related or not, but maybe run a memtest just to rule out bad memory.

Ok thanks for the help today, getting closer.

@WexfordStyle & @Richard Aarnink - Check this link in the lsio - LE support thread. Read through from there on if you're still struggling - it took me a while, too. It's an issue with a security fix that LE put in place. Requires, not a work around, but an adjustment in process.

Thanks @FreeMan .

Reading through it now.

I removed the rc.preclear status from UD because of issues some people were having in UD.  I also feel the same way.  I'm beginning to think that the preclear is more trouble than it is worth.

As soon as we can get limetech to add a long smart test to the end of a new disk inclusion cycle after the zeroing is done, I think it can be relegated to those who want to work through the command line version manually. No need to keep trying to integrate it into the GUI as a graphical plugin.

i did the upgrade and everything went well, i have one question, is there a way to change that long new https address for something like  server.mydomain.com so i can use my own domain

thanks in advanced

That would be a much better answer.  Preclearing is not a daily operation and is done very infrequently in a normal unRAID setup.

Shouldn't you use kvm_amd.nested=1?

Is that a thing?  All I know is I needed the kvm_intel.netsted=1 statement to allow VMWare images to play inside a Linux VM, and it works even on my Ryzen box.  Without this option, the passed through CPU reports no VM capabilities.

But I'll look into it further, maybe the AMD version would work even better...

You can get your own LE cert and upload to your server to file config/ssl/certs/certificate_bundle.pem.  Set 'Use SSL/TLS' to Yes (not Auto).

You are also on your own to renew the cert every 90 days.  We can't do it because it's not our domain obviously.

So at this point at I'm at my longest uptime on any 6.4 stable or pre-release.  This is the first time I'm in safe mode.

I'm reading a lot about it possibly being something with the preclear plugin, but there's seems to be disagreement on if this could be having any impact on my setup since I'm in safe mode at the moment.

If no one has any suggestions, my next step will be to boot normally and then uninstall the preclear plugin and see how things go.

Upgraded from 6.35 oip 6.4 using the plugins method with no trouble.   I made sure any other plugin that needed to be updated was done first.  Even the reboot seemed faster.

edit:  Spoke too soon.  Speedtest no longer works because it keeps saying that it needs python 2 from the NerdPack plugin.  Well I remove & then reinstall NerdPack & it keeps complaining about python 2.  Finally I tired to install python 2 by itself & it tells me that it is already installed.  I did stop/restart my server.

I'm seeing the same thing - did you find a solution?

Speedtest isn't a critical element, but it is a nicety, especially since my service has been a bit up'n down of late.

If you don't currently need it, just remove it.  The preclear plugin is not needed for daily operation.

Well sadly i am not at my server right now but when i tried to updated this morning my cache drive was unable to mount.
It said it had to be formated.

Anyone else with this problem?

Going back to 6.3 got my drive up again. I will post again with logs when i am back with my server, just wanted to check if any one else has problems with XFS SSD Cache drives.

No I did not.  I seem to be in some kind of horrible chicken/egg situation & I have no idea how to 'break out'.

You probably formatted the disk with UD and it is not a compatible format with 6.4.  Roll back to 6.3, unload the cache drive, update to 6.4, format the cache, and move the stuff back.

UD now formats disks to be compatible with the array disks.
