I thought it was cool. Enjoyed seeing everyone else asking whats going on 😅 All I got was the notification. Didn't see any faces. Generally pranks are more public announcements like 'today we announce unraid has been bought by microsoft or investment bankers group.' Maybe we can integrate the faces into the app store permentently as-well as the corpo logos. 😁 Be nice to see more of who's involved.

WTF is this notification about?

Random single drive from ZFS POOL keeps spinning up... Unsure of cause. I though a ZFS pool of 4 disks all need to all spin up at once if anything is accessed. This is how it usually works if I access any data on the shares on that ZFS Pool.. Tried to look into what is causing the actual spin up call but unraid needs extra packages.. The Tools -> file activity / open files are a bit basic. moulin-rouge-diagnostics-20240329-0721.zip

Would recommend moving it to a docker container set up & running everything separately bit of work initially but will be lower system overhead compared to a VM.

What are you intending to use the VM for? Is anything that can be done in docker containers? If you wanna run plex theres a container for it. if you wanna game check out steam-headless container. The benefit of docker is the containers can all share the GPU whereas a VM will take it exclusively. Personally I've moved away from GPU passthrough in VM's. I only use VM's if I need to run a windows program. I do my gaming on a steamdeck but I did play with steam headless container and actually got better raytracing performance than in a windowsVM. Obviously some online games (like COD) don't work on linux properly due to anti-cheat but most games work well. Cyberpunk2077, Hogwarts etc. Def worth having a play with both options. See which you prefer.

Minor. Few updates ago introduced a change that shows drives as being spun up when they are idle / spun down.

Try adding the nvidia idle code to your go config file (on the usb stick). Love this plugin but would it be possible to change the way the pop ups work for updates? Suggest we use the title of the update in the alert or change it from generic panic warning to a 'hey theres an update for a docker' or update for xyz container' The title of the container update is used in this page so should be able to pull into the notification? Why all this well I & many have the server send notifications on discord and it would be nice to know which are real problems and which are just updates. 🤓🙈 ofcourse it all depends on what's available in the unraid notifications system.

Just had a look out of interest at the backups and it's missing loads of my containers. It seems to do the main ones plex etc but has missed out others specifically Romm. So it creates a .xml file for each container but it is missing a lot of the .zst files of the actual folder. Is anyone else having similar? No container is set to be skipped.

To work out bandwidth you must look deep within at how you plan to run it. i.e - '1x minisas --> 4x sata cables' or '1x minisas to 1x minisas' into a backplane that has 12x drives? What's the most number of drives to be connected & are they spinners or sata ssds? i.e - Max read speed in MB of each drive X the number of drives = your maximum needed bandwidth. Then you see what is practical i.e if you want to keep a graphics card you wouldn't use that slot etc. Enjoy the new toy.

Ok noted but how do you find out what is making the spinup call? the file activity & open files plugins are for files accessed & read and as such not disks that are spun up and not read.

Anyone else getting random disk spin up to read smart status of drives?

Hi am noticing something keeps spinning up my disk to do smart health checks. Or they are being spun up and then doing a health check. No read happens on drives so I can't use the file activity plugin or the open files plugin to narrow down.. Is there a way I can turn the frequency of smart checks down? It doesn't need to start up a sleeping pool.. i.e merlin Could be a 6.12.8 bug? Have removed disk location, zfs master etc incase it's a plugin but doesnt seem to be.
