  1. Just went through this myself, solution is to change permissions from read-only for group/other to R/W:
  2. I don't mind being challenged on the setup, this was all whipped together over a few days, even though I wanted to do it for ages The M.2 is a 250GB NVME that came with the unit from auction, its a freebie I wouldn't of bought for this but it'll get used for appdata etc for convenience + separation of roles, the pool name "cache" is the default first pool name and I've haven't sought fit to change it yet. I was able to setup what I wanted out of Unraid in about 5min, but I'm not afraid to nuke and pave this to get the format right. The targets for this server will be backups of vms, appdata, user docs, photos, music etc... basically all the important non-video media from my main servers. A mirrored 4TB will be plenty for now, and its really just a +1 safeguard given existing data is already mirrored and/or parity protected on other respective servers. Once first backup is done, I'm not expecting the backup deltas to use a lot of bandwidth... and if it does I won't notice anyway. Main array is a spare thumbdrive, next release should remove the requirement for it to exist. In release 6.12 you can customise the visible panels, I've simply hidden the array + parity panels (see below).
  3. Final ingredient was small + thin sata cables, which came today! Took the time while waiting to reprint drive carrier and riser/spacer in ASA black filament Happily running on 6.12.4 at the moment Looking forward to testing out subvolumes and snapshots plugin as part of this backup server journey
  4. A project server that I've been meaning to do for some time is a small backup server, able to be located seperately from my main rack. I came across the M710q at local auctions and eventually picked one up for under AUD$100. Out of the box it is well specced, with one m.2 slot and one 2.5" drive... but I really wanted 2x 2.5" so I could run a raid1 pool for backups. Enter a slew of additional purchases, modifying a sata splitter, and a couple hours on the 3D printer to prototype a solution:
  5. Can confirm this was impacting me on 6.11.5, and the Connect update resolved the issue.
  6. sounds like a browser cache issue, try clearing it out.
  7. Spotted this parsing error at the end of start up for some older drives in a (non-critical) pool, doesn't seem to have impacted server operation.
  8. Pretty much any 140mm fan is best if you can make it work, pressure + flow at lower rpm = quiet performer. I used the Noctua NF-A14 to cool 28 disks in a rosewill 4u (custom arrangement). That said the crappy fans the rosewills come with worked fine for me in another case loaded with 15 drives with the dust filter / front door open, they're just a bit noisey.
  9. I would note many modern motherboards don't come with usb2.0 ports anymore, but sometimes they do allow those ports to be put into usb2.0 mode in bios settings.
  10. Unraid uses LUKS for encryption (you need to format with this option), which works in a similar way to Bitlocker. You can either manually enter the passphrase to unlock disks and start the array, or store it somewhere accessible at array start time and have it use it automatically, e.g. your example of a separate usb containing the passphrase.
  11. Start up surge is on 12V rail, no issues with that on a 1200W PSU, 5V rail was at its limit with 28 disks, but no current in-rush to contend with. I've since moved most of my disks into a Netapp DS4246 (an external disk shelf) which has its own PSUs.
  12. I remember reading about macvlan crashes as far back as 6.9, for me it 6.10 upgrade that saw crashes appear.
  13. R730/R730XD only have one x16 slot in their default configuration. If you want 2x x16 electrically you need to pickup the "alternate" riser used in Dell's GPU kits (can be found on ebay cheap). Otherwise the GPU will need to run at x8. You'll probably want to pick up the correct pcie power cable for your GPU also, which are powered off the riser. https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-au/poweredge-r730xd/r730xd_ompublication/expansion-card-installation-guidelines?guid=guid-48fdcedc-e689-4cb6-a83c-7b9ea4e31449&lang=en-us
  14. FYI font choice is not readable on the dark theme.
  15. Possibly some regional issues with Github, had seen some issues for some people in the last day. For what its worth, ddclient updated fine for me 2 days ago (CA auto update) against the dockerhub mirror linuxserver/ddclient
  16. Emulated disk utilises parity disk to calculate, which can also bitflip at the same probability as a regular array data disk.

  18. You're probably missing the envs, you can create it as per this documentation, or you can add them as part of the unraid template (varaibles). note: this will contain your private keys, so you will need to make judgement call on how secure you unraid server is, anyone with access to this server could grab your private keys. https://bitcoin-dca.readthedocs.io/en/latest/getting-started.html
  19. Which June? This year? But seriously, I'm sure stable will be here Soon(tm) 😅
  20. Paypal is already supported, this poll is for adding more payment options
  21. Most users already on Unraid will probably be happy with the status quo, but ZFS on Unraid will appeal to a lot of new users that liked all the other aspects of Unraid, but were put off by lack of ZFS. The ZFS file system itself is the gold standard and is extremely robust with great performance, at the cost of being less flexible and more $/TB compared to the classic Unraid array.
  22. I've seen that kind of behaviour in the past from usb key disconnects, reboot will fix it up in that case.
  23. WAF = Wife Acceptance Factor If you made something too outlandish, not user friendly etc, it probably won't pass WAF test.
