That host location would be created in RAM and could possibly fill it up. Could above error message be a result of memory filling up? I have 32GB ram and only use 12%, so this should be plenty for transcoding? Quote Link to comment
csmccarron
Crap, I changed my password on my Plex account and my Plex server disappeared. How do you get it back? When I login to the webconsole all it says it looking for a server. Anyone with some wisdom on how to reconnect the plexserver to the plex account? Quote Link to comment

MvL
I have a weird issue, and it happend before. The only thing to get Plex working again was a re-install. I'll explain. So far, I have only used it to play direct, but never used the transcoding function. I now tried it, but - much top my surprise - it is not working. I am getting the following error message on IOS and TVOS Plex apps: "Playback was terminated by the server. Conversino failed. The transcoder exited due to an error". Container and host paths are both set to "/transcode", which I believe how it was by default. Could this be the issue? I am sure I am missing something very obvious here... Let me know if any debug log is helpful and happy to provide. Thanks in advance for your help! Still not getting transcode to work. Some more info below: I am getting the same error with the Plex APP for IOS and TVOS, so I'd assume it's a server issue? Error on IOS app: Playback was terminated by the server. Conversion failed. The transcoder exited due to an error Same error message with TVOS app. Checked the log in the PMS container: Critical: libusb_init failed [s6-finish] sending all processes the KILL signal and exiting. Any thoughts? Quote Link to comment
steve1977
Switched to the official Plexinc docker, which also didn't work. Switched back to linuxserver.io docker. Unfortunately, still no luck with transcoding. Any thoughts? Quote Link to comment
Maticks
maybe try changing the /transcode folder from the ram to a hard drive again. i remember one guy was having a weird problem had heaps of memory free and yet had issues with the /transcode folder it went away when he changed it back to a hard drive. steve1977
Great, thanks. This did the trick. Now transcoding seems to work. How much ram do I need for transcoding? I have plenty free, but maybe it helps if I pin it to the docker? Also, how material is the advantage of transcoding via ram compared to HD? It took quite some time for the movie to start. Assume this is normal when transcoding? Quote Link to comment
Maticks
I think there is a limit on how much memory the docker is allowed to use. But it seems a bit odd i have 4-5 streams on my Plex docker using memory without much issue at all and i only have 14GB in my Unraid server. But another person had the same issue with the /transcode folder as you did. I think he was on a Ryzen system and i am on an Intel one that seem to be the only difference. Quote Link to comment
Maticks
When transcoding to the hard drive yeah its going to take a bit extra for the movie to start, you can use your SSD Cache drive to get a bit faster. But Memory would be best if you can find out how to fix that issue. Quote Link to comment
steve1977
I am on Intel (not Ryzen), so this can be excluded as issue. Any idea how I can problem-solve the issue why the docker cannot transcode via ram. Quote Link to comment

steve1977
Not sure and I haven't done anything. What folder are you referring to? After setting the "/transcoder" to HD, it is working. When setting it to "/transcode", it is not (and I was told that this setup implies that it is supposed to use ram? Quote Link to comment

I tried to set the transcode folder but it doesn't help. Also see the screenshot. Does anyone know what's going on? I don't really know what is or might be going on for you, but I had a similar issue. Here is my similar post: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/308232/why-would-tv-episodes-not-play-from-a-remote-client#latest Maybe that thread (and probably the link to another forum post) will provide you an answer/explanation; I didn't really understand it, but the solution worked for me! Since that post, I have switched to the Docker version and things have remained fine for me and remote clients; I didn't need to change permissions after switching from the plugin to the docker version. mbc0
Hi, I am having a problem with Plex not starting since adding a 10gbE network card? (you can see it in the log as 192.168.11.33) If I set Tunable (Enable Direct IO) to yes under settings/Global Share Settings in the unRAID Server I get full 10gbE Speed but Plex won't start (log below) if I change Tunable (Enable Direct IO) back to Auto Plex works but then I get slower than gigabit let alone 10 gigabit transfer speeds on that 10gbE card? Any ideas how to make Plex work with Tunable (Enable Direct IO) set to Yes? Many Thanks ? glennv
You can get plex to work again by pointing it to /mnt/cache/appdata instead of /mnt/cache/appdata. Assuming you have appdata on cache. That is true for a few other dockers as wel like Sonar for example Quote Link to comment
mbc0
Hi, I tried changing from /mnt/user/appdata/plex/ to /mnt/cache/appdata/plex/ but plex would not start so I changed it back to /mnt/user/appdata/plex/ and then Plex started (as long as Tunable (Enable Direct IO) is set to auto I did check and can confirm that I can access Plex appdata at /mnt/cache/appdata/plex/ so I am not sure why it didn't work as it is the same location, does it work instantly when you change it? perhaps I was too impatient? Plex keeps crashing. May be a corrupt database. Check the plex media server logs in the config folder Quote Link to comment
mbc0
Hi, there is no problem with plex if I run the docker with the appdata folder in /mnt/user/appdata/ there are no errors at all. As I have installed a 10gbE card I need to change the appdata folder to /mnt/cache/appdata and if I do that then plex won't start (as my previoud post I just see continuous messages saying Starting Plex Media Server in the log. if I change back to /mnt/user/appdata and restart the docker everything is fine so there is no corruption.
