  1. It is what it is. I think the same and the future doesn't seem bright. I can understand that they want to live from the software, but let's be real it's a side job. I'm probably sure they could be more profitable going open source, setting up a donation button and bundle the software with some premade hardware. Time will tell, but I hope they'll give us a way to retain the paid software if they fail (like register a new usb key because the one you had just died). If they succeed, I'll apologize for being an unbeliever. Mark my word.

  2. As previously announced, Unraid OS licensing and upgrade pricing is changing. As we finish testing and dialing in our new website and infrastructure, we aim to launch on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024. What this Means You have until March 27th, 2024, to purchase our current Basic, Plus, and Pro licenses or to upgrade your license at the current prices. New License Types, Pricing, and Policies We are introducing three new license types: Starter $49 - Supports up to 6 attached storage devices. Unleashed $109 - Supports an unlimited number of devices. Annual Extension Fee for Starter and Unleashed: $36 Lifetime $249 - Unlimited devices. No extension fee. Starter and Unleashed licenses include one year of software updates with purchase. After one year, customers can pay an optional extension fee to make them eligible for an additional year of updates. If you choose not to extend your license, no problem. You still own the license and have full access to the OS. If your license extension lapses (as in, you do not pay your annual fee), you can download patch releases within the same minor OS version that was available to you at the time of the lapse. Please review our FAQ section below for more on this security update policy. Basic, Plus, and Pro Keys Will Become 'Legacy Keys' These changes do not apply to current Basic, Plus, or Pro license holders. As promised, you can still access all updates for life and upgrade your Basic or Plus license. Once Starter, Unleashed, and Lifetime are available, Legacy licenses will no longer be sold. Legacy License Upgrade Pricing Changes Along with the new license types, we are increasing our Upgrade pricing for all legacy keys. Legacy key holders will also be able to move into the new system if they choose. The pricing will be as follows: Basic to Plus: $59 Basic to Pro: $99 Basic to Unleashed: $49 Plus to Pro: $69 Plus to Unleashed: $19 FAQs Please refer to our blog for a full list of FAQs

  3. @Araso If you want to try the test version, I think I fixed Koyha (not 100% sure since I don't use it) Perhaps you'll have to set up acceleration in the parameters (at least to tell which GPU to use) For your problem of permissions I did what you suggested. There is now two files at the root of the config folder : 'Delete this file to clean virtual env and dependencies at next launch' 'Delete this file to reset access rights at next launch' I think it's pretty clear, and please tell me if it solves your issue.

Startzyklen gegen Laufzeit. Wir sehen es eben unterschiedlich. Mach, was Du willst.

  7. This is not what I've wrote you should do, I wrote: to be more precise put this at the end from your config. I would always recommend to append your changes at the end because you make your life harder than it is if you put it in different spots in the config.

  12. You can't compare Microsoft with Limetech. This is about NAS software and there are good and free alternatives. Examples: If you have a Ugreen NAS, then you have UgreenOS or you install TrueNAS Scale + TrueCharts, Proxmox, OpenMediavault, Xpenology. You can also install CASAOS on UgreenOS (debian). Then you have a nice community-based open source GUI. The same is with the OpenMediaVault + CASAOS. Portainers are also available. Have you looked at alternative software? TrueNAS and Proxmox have been around for a very long time. You should find out how you make money. Instead of buying software for $249, people prefer to buy hardware. Why should you spend so much money on NAS software when the others are just as good? Limetech is doing itself no favors. This could also be the beginning of the end.

  15. Well truenas have courted businesses more than unraid have and built a business model that allows free for home users and paid/supported versions for business, they also have a merch store and oem servers..... basically a more rounded approach to income. I'm not saying that unraid needs to be free either, just that the new pricing makes it a lot harder justifying unraid over other highly regarded options.

  16. But for how much longer??? Remember that Macrium used to allow their backup software (Reflect) for free and now they have subscription/major-version plan. Their business plan was similiar to what Truenas has been using. MS may be giving their software updates away but only until your current hardware dies or is obsolete. (Remember that WIN11 only will install on newer hardware...) Plus, what about the fees for MS Office and, now, Copilot. Even the lifetime version of MS Office will lose support, updates and support after a few short years. Plus, I know they are putting Adverts in a side bar on many of their 'free' games. When will they start putting them in Office??? The handwriting is on the wall. The day that the 'home' user gets quality software for free or one time purchase is disappearing. This is not like a book. You simply take it home and use it until it falls apart. I can remember back when TV had very little advertising on it (~1948). Then came advertising between programs. (on the half-hour or hour depending on program length.) Then one ad in the middle from the single sponsor of that program. It continued to evolve until they stop play in sport events for commercials! Most of the complainants are demanding lifetime warranty and support when they make their one time purchase. Those days are now behind us. The glory days where the 'computing' market was growing at what seemed an exponential rate are gone. We are now moving into the mature market phase and those companies who are going to survive this transition are going to have to adapt. (The 'cash' cow phase probably lies ahead...)

  17. I think you want wo warn me from having unraid as an exposed host, which I don't have. The GUI of unraid is not accessible from the internet. What I intended to say is, that the unraid server is in a seperate network, which doesn't have access to any other network than the internet. And only all outgoing connections are allowed. The web applications I host on the server are behind a Web Application Firewall on my Sophos UTM, so this should be fine.

  18. Hello Basically, it's good that Unraid is thinking about financing. But it is extremely disappointing that Unraid still does not differentiate between commercial and private licenses. And now, it get even worse: Unraid only allows rich users or commercial users to buy a lifetime license. I know many families for whom 30$ is a lot of money - even in 'rich' Germany! That's why I have a private NAS with 12 disks that I make available to friends and neighbors free of charge. Professionally, I am responsible for IT in a company with around 180 employees, so I can judge the business and private benefits very well 🙂 Therefore, such a pricing model would be much fairer: Starter, up to 6 attached storage Devices Private use: Idea: Private user always have the Unraid logo Buy: 39$ Annual fee: 19$ Lifetime: 99$ Commercial use: Idea: Commercial users can change the Unraid logo Buy: 69$ Annual fee: 49$ Lifetime: 219$ Unleashed - unlimited number of devices Private use: Idea: Private user always have the Unraid logo Buy: 79$ Annual fee: 19$ Lifetime: 149$ Commercial use: Idea: Commercial users can change the Unraid logo Buy: 159$ Annual fee: 49$ Lifetime: 299$ An important note: In 50 years I have met a lot of companies and 99% are fair when it comes to licensing. Therefore, I would trust the self-declaration of the users: if someone orders a private license, then you can assume this is no abuse of the license. However, it would be important to be able to convert the license from private use to commercial use. There are many people who start out in a garage with a small private project that develops into a business over time - and then it should be easy to change the license 🙂 Thanks a lot, kind regards, Thomas Schittli

  20. I'm pretty close to being that 'new user', I have not been using unraid long and I said this in the original thread. Unraid, well home server/nas software is a very niche market so cost is relevant imo, £100 (what price converted to) was basically the sweet spot price where it wouldn't matter if I stopped using it. At the new prices I would not have likely waited a little longer to get some more drives (they're all same size so the mixed sizes don't matter) and just went with truenas.... free is very attractive when people are reusing old hardware, quite common with unraid (I'm not but still), and there is often a limit people are prepared to pay for an OS these days, look how MS allowed 'free updates' for the last couple of versions of windows etc, yes bigger company but also more well known. Throw in the mix that there is a potential competitor coming in from a youtuber with 15million or so users.... edit: I am also seeing posts on other sites where people are literally going, new and old users, going should I buy unraid now even if I don't intend to user it until later.....most responses are yes get it now.

  21. That is a true word…. However unraid has not been “free” for some time. Alternatives like truenasnor proxmox are there and are free. So there is absolutely a place for users who want a free option. Unraid already is not that place. Verzonden vanaf mijn iPhone met Tapatalk

  24. Looking at the description in more detail of what it takes to carry out such an attack I suspect that if you have someone with the capability to carry out this sort of attack having physical access to your server then you probably have much larger problems anyway!

Sie stellen eher einen Hinweis dar und sind keine Beeinträchtigung im Betrieb. warning: subnetcache: serve-expired is set but not working for data originating from the subnet module cache. warning: subnetcache: prefetch is set but not working for data originating from the subnet module cache. Erklärung der beiden Parameter: prefetch: <yes or no> If yes, message cache elements are prefetched before they expire to keep the cache up to date. Turning it on gives about 10 percent more traffic and load on the machine, but popular items do not expire from the cache. Default is "no". serve-expired: <yes or no> If enabled, Unbound attempts to serve old responses from cache with a TTL of serve expired-reply-ttl in the response without waiting for the actual resolution to finish. The actual resolution answer ends up in the cache later on. Default is "no".

  28. I've been running a APC BR1350MS for a few years and I have zero complaints. It is plug and play with Unraid and apcupsd. With a fresh battery it reports ~50 minute run time at ~100W load. I recently replaced the battery after 2+ years with the battery for the 1500 model (APCRBC163) - It was a drop in replacement, a few $$ cheaper, and I get some extra A/hr. I don't give too much heed to the UPS reviews I've read. I think that across the board for what is considered consumer UPS, the cheaper models are just that - cheap. Move up the product line some, temper your expectations, and most choices will work out OK.

  31. So then you should use rstp as you are using. Yes the docs are complex among other things because of its wide compatibility with many different systems. It is not a product, it is a free software project and believe me they have made and continue to make a great effort to simplify things. In any case, you can always contribute your grain of sand proposing improvements or changes in the documentation.

  34. Seems fair to me. I likely will never have a need to change my current two pro and one plus licenses, but, at least I know what the path is should I choose to go that way. Legacy users are protected and security updates within minor release will be available even to those with lapsed support. I think this addresses most concerns and everyone has enough information to decide where they go with Unraid. Change is often difficult, but, I feel this has been handled well and with more transparency than is often the case in these situations.

If it's more than that then I can live without it as long as Forge is working.

  38. I had to chime in, this hit a nerve. I agree with 1812, they want everything for free. Even downloading movies. They will spend the money for hardware but software they want for free or next to nothing. Take a look at the users that rant the most. They are fairly new members. I doubt they have experienced a hard disk failure. This is where Unraid shines. If they complain about pricing, I doubt they use parity drive(s). I say let them leave and go to an alternative. I chose Unraid 14 years ago. Back then the biggest concern was LT’s risk management since Tom was a one man show. I wanted a system to be expandable, I wanted to use my various sized hard disks. I wanted the disk to spin down and I liked the idea that you could still access a disk by itself. It had to be an unconventional server, Unraid fit the bill. I went with the pro license at that time since it was the only one that covered my hard disk count. I just checked my email invoice from “Tom” and it was on sale for $109 ($10 discount) at that time. I spent more for a UPS. Soon I was maxed out and bought two 1TB drives, then larger drives and survived through the 2TB limit! I have experienced the introduction of Joe L.’s creations; cache_dirs, unMENU and preclear. We endured a number of LT re-locations. Unraid has come along way. Thanks Tom! Sorry, I haven’t been active on this forum lately, I been busy doing other things and frankly, Unraid just works. I have recovered through a number of hard disk failures, parity swaps, array up sizing and array down sizing. All painlessly. BTW, I still have the original flash drive. I didn’t cheap out on that. I’ve recommended and help setup Unraid using the Pro license to lots of people and not one complained about the cost. When my kids finally move out, we will happily pay for the “Lifetime” license no matter what the cost.

One thing to note is that you must specify the Sql environment variables and the path's must match that of the container path. ASPNETCORE_ENVIRONMENT=Production ASPNETCORE_HTTP_PORTS=5000 Remotely_ApplicationOptions__DbProvider=SQLite Remotely_ConnectionStrings__SQLite=Data Source=/app/AppData/Remotely.db The author also mentions "I did not test with Cloudflare Tunnels, so I'm assuming that still won't work." but it's working fine for me.

  41. What's the idea behind all this? Why do we need to be signed in to now update an OS? It worked fine that way it was... you just clicked update. Now we have to be signed into unraid.net and go to an external website then click update.. What's actually different under the hood? What happens to those that dont want to use the unraid connect plugin. Also if your not using the unraid connect plugin (I deleted it) how is unraid.net still talking to my server!? How securely is the update command sent from the unraid.net website to my server? How is this verified. What happens if unraid.net gets hacked & issues bad firmware?

What fixed the issue for me was running these two commands below on the Telegram bot itself and trying the TEST message again. I even removed the chatid file I had created manually and tried it again and the script populated the file. 1.) /start 2.) /get_messages_stats

He said under windows features not having hyperv/sandbox/linux workspace installed improved his performance. Sure enough I turned off hyperv in windows features and my gpu utilization went way up. Just tested out diablo 2 and was using 98 percent of the gpu and 225 fps. Also played the callisto protocol on the vm and was holding good frames and 80 percent plus in most areas on GPU and 98 on Vram.

  48. I would definetly also want mutliple arrays. That would give the ultimate felxibility to organize the storage of the server. Every array with its own parity disk(s) would be an independet fault tolerance unit. Without speed and securtiy degration, if in another array a drive fails and the array needs to be reconstructed. It would be possible to spread the risk over more disks when the data is split by mutliple arrays. Statistically, the over all reliability gets lower and lower, the more drives you add to a single array with its max. 2 parity disks. With multiple arrays, this could be prohibited.
